Replica suggère une nouvelle lecture du corps et du modèle comme une image pure, un outil pur, sans référence à une identité représentative, ignorant ainsi la société contemporaine de ce que le soi devrait être. Lino fait fortement référence au photographe américain du milieu du siècle dernier, William Mortensen, qui affirme qu'un corps est simplement considéré comme "une machine qui a besoin de réglages". Selon Mortensen, le corps doit être la base, "la représentation de la personnalité et de l'émotion [...] est non pertinente et trompeuse". Il y a une certaine déshumanisation dans l'approche du modèle par Mortensen, un retour du corps à un objet sans signification, devant la caméra. Dans le cas de Lino, elle est à la fois le modèle, l'opérateur/le photographe, le sujet et l'image. Elle a un contrôle total. Elle a trouvé un moyen de se soustraire à la représentation et a réduit son propre corps à un objet et une image purs, presque comme une machine.
