Construite en 1961 à Ivry-sur-Seine, dans l'essor des constructions sociales de l'après-guerre, la cité Gagarine est devenue un emblème de la banlieue rouge. En 1963, lors d'une visite historique, le cosmonaute Youri Gagarine planta un arbre devant l'imposante façade de briques rouges. La cité Gagarine a été détruite en 2020.. . . . . . . . . En 2017, quand Marie-Pierre Dieterlé a commencé à photographier les derniers locataires, il ne restait plus qu'une centaine de logements occupés sur les 384 que comprenait la cité. Tout allait disparaître. En tant que photographe, la nécessité de faire oeuvre de mémoire s'est imposée à elle.. . . . . . . . . Mêlant portraits et témoignages des habitants, lieux désertés imprégnés des histoires passées, jusqu'aux dernières étapes de la déconstruction, il est né de cette aventure un livre-objet émouvant et surprenant tant dans sa forme que dans son contenu.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Built in 1961 in Ivry-sur-Seine, during the post-war social construction boom, the Gagarin housing estate has become an emblem of the red suburbs. In 1963, during a historic visit, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin planted a tree in front of the imposing red brick façade. The Gagarin estate was destroyed in 2020.. . . . . . . . . In 2017, when Marie-Pierre Dieterlé began photographing the last tenants, there were only about 100 occupied units left out of the 384 that the housing estate included. Everything was going to disappear. As a photographer, the need to make a work of memory imposed itself on her.. . . . . . . . . Mixing portraits and testimonies of the inhabitants, deserted places impregnated with past histories, until the last stages of the deconstruction, a moving and surprising book-object was born from this adventure, as much in its form as in its content.
