"Cette série a débuté lors d?ateliers photographiques que je menais au quartier femme de la maison d?arrêt d?Angoulême et au centre pénitentiaire de Vivonne sous la direction du SPIP (Service pénitentiaire d'insertion et de probation). Pendant 5 ans, j?ai photographié les femmes détenues qui se mettaient en scène dans la salle d?activité de la prison. Puis j?ai cherché un moyen de représenter ce dehors si présent dans les esprits et les conversations en associant leurs portraits à des paysages qu?elles me décrivaient et que j?allais capturer à l?extérieur de leurs murs. Ils pouvaient tantôt figurer le manque, tantôt un paysage intérieur, un souvenir ou une projection vers un ailleurs ou un après qui se révéler souvent être universel. Je cherchais, à travers ce dialogue à attribuer à ces femmes leur puissance réelle et à enrichir leur représentation." Céline Levain. . "This series began during photography workshops I led in the women's wing of Angoulême prison and at Vivonne prison under the direction of the SPIP (Penitentiary Integration and Probation Service). For five years, I photographed female prisoners who posed in the prison's activity room. Then I looked for a way to represent the outside world that was so present in their minds and conversations by combining their portraits with landscapes they described to me, which I would then capture outside the prison walls. These landscapes could represent longing, an inner landscape, a memory, or a projection toward somewhere else or some other time, which often turned out to be universal. Through this dialogue, I sought to attribute real power to these women and enrich their representation." Céline Levain. .
